“It has been an interesting season after two years away from high school golf.”
In 2019, Alex Swinnerton and Jackson Wingert battled it out in a playoff to decide the high school junior golf city champion. Swinnerton emerged victorious. On Wednesday, the pair who are now seniors at Centennial Collegiate, compete again, along with dozens of others from numerous city schools, for team and individual high school city championships at the Willows Golf and Country Club.

Today, the StarPhoenix presents our profiles of golfers from the schools whose coaches were able to respond to our request for their input by press deadline.
Aden Bowman Bears

Golfers to watch
- Chase Pochylko – Grade12.
- Brady Guenther – Grade 9.
Expectations for city championship

Bedford Road Redhawks
Head coach: Wayne Pilon
Golfers to watch
- Brock Dale and Mason Gryba – Grade 12. Will be leading the team. Both are new to the golf team, but bring a leadership presence to the course.

“In 2019 we had a small and inexperienced team which was lead by Parker Dale who won the city championship in a playoff. Parker now attends the University of Arizona.”
Expectations for city championship
“This year we hope to develop our young team and continue to build our program.”
Bethlehem Stars
Head coach: Chris Buzinski
Golfers to watch
- Nate Bohmann (Grade 11), Walker Cote (11), Tora Ward (11) and Alyssa Elliot (9). All have solid skills, a competitive spirit and passion for golf.
Expectations for city championship
“Our expectations are to represent Bethlehem golf and shoot personal best scores.”
Bishop Mahoney Saints
Head coach: Jacquie and Christopher Harris
Golfers to watch
- All golfers are new to the high school golf scene this year so we will have to see who stands out.

“The Saints had a good showing in 2019 with golfers filling all categories. The senior boys team finished in third place and our girls team finished in second.”
Expectations for city championship
“It has been an interesting season after two years away from high school golf. This season has seen a great deal of interest in our developmental team so we will have numerous players in the nine-hole fun event. As for the 18-hole city championship, the Saints hope to have players in all divisions and hope to place in the team events.”
Centennial Chargers
Head coach: Grant Ryde & Shane Wingert
Golfers to watch
- Alex Swinnerton and Jackson Wingert. In 2019 during their Grade 9 year, these two golfers played each other in a playoff to decide 1st place with Alex coming out on top.

“We expect our teams to be competitive as we have many players that play competitively across the province.”
Evan Hardy Souls
Head coach: Sarah Clark and Matt Roberts

- Carter Walter – Grade 12. Great ball striker and strong commitment to the game.

“2019 was an exciting year for the Evan Hardy golf team, with a record number of 25 golfers. Five golfers participated in the city championship tournament and several others participated in the Scissons Developmental Tournament at Silverwood. It was a great season of skill development and growing our appreciation for the game.”

Expectations for city championship
“The Evan Hardy golf program is all about introducing the sport to new golfers, skill development for regular players, and growing a love for the game. We have many beginners to the game this season and are having a great time developing our skills at the dome and in practice rounds. A fantastic group of golfers for the coaches to work with and we are excited for the season!”
Holy Cross Crusaders
Head coach: Troy Kendry
Golfers to watch
- Sarah Henderson – Grade 9, Female. Won the 2021 H.S. provincial championships (in the fall of 2021).
- Coben Taylor – Grade 9, Male. One of the top 2007 players in the city.
- Owen Trischuk & Justin Miller – Grade 10, Males. Competing for the junior title.
- Lucas Scott & Carter O’Reilly – Grade 11, Males. Competing for the city title.
- Ty Horbach & Kristian Ballantyne – Grade 12, Males. Competing for the senior title.
Expectations for city championship
“We are hoping to compete and win the team city championships, along with many individual winners. There are a lot of great young golfers at Holy Cross in both our seniors categories, but the young talent in our Grade 9 and 10s make the future bright for Holy Cross as well.”
Marion Graham Falcons
Head coach: Kris Street
Golfers to watch
- Aedon Bigeagle – Grade 11. Controlled and smooth swing. Hits a long straight ball and has great iron control.
- Ryan Mosher – Grade 9. Hits a controlled ball. Very consistent in his game. Has worked hard during the offseason to improve game.
- Jayden Zufka – Grade 10. Great dedication. Hits a straight ball and plays a consistent round. Looking to shave some strokes off his game this season.

Expectations for city championship
“The school has seen one of its best turn outs for players in several years. We have a very large but young team with mostly Grade 9 and 10 players who will be looking to improve their game and make an impact in the future. Look for Aedon Bigeagle to be a threat in the championship tournament.”
Tommy Douglas Tigers
Head coach: J Colquhoun
Golfers to watch
- Wyatt Nelson (Grade 12) & Kristian Peters (Grade 9). They are driven to improve and have good practice habits. They have been team leaders on the range and on the course.
Expectations for city championship
“We are a young team with some ‘club’ experience and a passion for the game. We have hopeful expectations for a strong performance at tournament time.”
Walter Murray Marauders
Head coach: Brandon Dowie
Golfers to watch
- Max Regier – Grade 11. An up and coming junior golfer who was been very dedicated to practicing and improving his skills. He is also a fantastic leader for his team members who are new to golf.
Expectations for city championship
“Hopefully be in contention to win city championships and go on to provincials in September.”
