Freshippo, Alibaba’s online and offline grocery chain, has been cutting staff from its purchasing and operations teams since May, Chinese media outlet Jiemian reported on Tuesday. An unnamed Freshippo employee told Jiemain that the grocer has focused on cutting related teams in other regions and relocating the remaining staff to its Shanghai headquarters. Staff in regional stores are not affected. The report said Freshippo hopes to move most of the purchasing and operations teams to Shanghai for more streamlined management.
