Aleksandar Mitrovic or Chris Wood?

Monday evening saw Aleksandar Mitrovic and Fulham beat Luton 7-0, ensuring that they finish top of the Championship.

Two more goals for the Serbian striker saw him move on to a remarkable 43 goals in 43 league games this season.

This meant he became the Championship’s highest ever goalscorer in a single campaign, surpassing Guy Whittingham’s 42 goals for Portsmouth in the 1992/93 season (the most in the 46 game league format).

Aleksandar Mitrovic also becoming the highest scoring player in a single season in English football for over half a century.

When it comes to the second tier, the all-time record is held by Middlesbrough’s George Camsell, 59 in  the 1927/28 season.

Arriving as a 20 year old in summer 2015, Aleksandar Mitrovic has found himself with a very up and down club career to say the least, seven seasons and in every single one, part of a squad that was either getting relegated or promoted.

Here’s a question, Aleksandar Mitrovic or Chris Wood?

Whilst Mitro was helping to put the final touches to Fulham’s very successful promotion season, Chris Wood has seen a bit of a winding down of his recently. One of four players dropped to the bench as Eddie Howe rotated his squad for the win at Norwich ten days ago, on Saturday he was the only one of the four left on the bench against Liverpool, coming off the bench with 23 minutes remaining after Eddie Howe had gone with a different formation in a very tough game, ASM with a free role through the middle.

However, when starting his first 14 matches under Eddie Howe, Chris Wood had a record of nine wins, two draws and three defeats, a massive 29 points accumulated in those games, an average of 2.07 points per match for NUFC when Wood has started.

So, who is best between the two strikers?

Guessing that most people would be interested in goals, how many the pair have each scored in club football since summer 2015 when Aleksandar Mitrovic arrived in England with NUFC.

Championship

Chris Wood with 41 goals in 77 Championship starts (and 6 sub appearances), playing 6,780 minutes and scoring at an average of a goal every 165 minutes.

Aleksandar Mitrovic with 85 goals in 112 Championship starts (and 17 sub appearances), playing 10,172 minutes and scoring at an average of a goal every 120 minutes.

Premier League

Aleksandar Mitrovic with 24 goals in 72 PL starts (and 32 sub appearances), playing 6,874 minutes and scoring at an average of a goal every 286 minutes.

Chris Wood with 51 goals in 141 PL starts (and 18 sub appearances), playing 10,574 minutes and scoring at an average of a goal every 207 minutes.

It is all about opinions but I would just like you to consider two final questions.

In January 2022, would you rather Newcastle United had signed Aleksandar Mitrovic or Chris Wood?

When the 2022/23 Premier League season kicks off, would you rather Newcastle United have Aleksandar Mitrovic or Chris Wood in their squad?
